window selection does not work reliably in sketch

I was finally able to document one of the problems I am having since the beginning (on different computers).

The window selection does not seem to work reliably.

Demo No1:

You see me window select a sketch and copy it. As you can see some random lines were not copied.

Demo No2:

After intersecting a body to a sketch I want to break all links. After multiple window selections and breaking links some lines remain unbroken. Only after zooming in and single select the line break link is successful. I think the problem is selection, not the break link action.

Demo No3:

Exact same Drawing, exact same operation, different result.

Since I am having the same problems on two different computers, but on one they seem to be worse than on the other, I ask myself: Does the graphic card play a role in selecting objects? I also ask myself this because nobody else notice these problems.

Regards,

Leo

Hi,

This is a known issue for us and you can work around this problem by checking "select through" in the selection filter.

The reason for this issue is when the "select through" is unchecked, we only select the "visible" objects. In the cases you showed, those lines are so tiny that they degenerate into the points on the screen and could be covered by the end points of the nearby lines. In other words, those lines are regarded as "invisible". That said, you can also work around this issue by zooming in the model so those lines are more visible.

Thanks

Chengyun

Thanks for the quick answer. Your explanation helps a lot.

However, I am surprised about that this issue does not get a higher priority. This behaviour has a big frustration factor....

btw, is it also a known issue that you can not delete selection sets in the browser?

We have been looking at it for a while and some improvement has been made in July release. But in nature it is difficult to fix completely. When one tiny line degenerates into a point and is covered/hidden by its nearby lines, our current window selecting pipeline can't handle it well since that line will be regarded as "invisible". We need some more creative solutions for this problem.

Thanks for the patience.

thank you for your explanation. I realise it is more complicated than it seems..

did you see my question about selection sets?

From what I can tell, deleting selection sets works OK.  If you can share your design, I can take a look, perhaps there is something different in your design than in my much simpler case in this screencast:

Thanks,

Hi Jeff

Thank you for taking a look at it.

I did exactly as you did in the screencast. Rightclicking and choosing delete, but they would not disappear. But now when I reopen the file the selection sets are gone and I can not reproduce it with different files. Sorry.

My initial problem is not really solved however. every once in a while there are some lines that I just can not break the link.

See it here:

Here is the file:

Befor sharing the file I tried to move it to an other folder. It does not seem to be possible. See the attached picture. The file is not open in Fusion360.

Very strange, indeed....  I was able to break link on those sketch elements successfully.  I can't explain the behavior I see in your video.  It does seem consistent with what you saw with deleting selection sets.  All I can suggest is to exit Fusion and re-start it, but I'm not at all convinced that this will solve your problem.

I will continue to investigate.

Hi Jeff,

I had seen lots of problems relating to Windows graphic cards, direct X and so on. Would you suggest the users to use Apple computers for Fusion 360 for the time being? Apple seems to work a little better than Windows. But the latest update for Apple does have starting problem as well. Sometimes Fusion 360 could not start. I had to force quit, then start again.

I think Fusion 360 is becoming a big program with many functions. Of course those are all good new functions. It might take a while for your team to fix the new problems. But then there will be more updates like data branching and so on. I would say after every update I had developed a scary feeling of not able to start the program  with my Apple I7 computers. I suggest the team to spend time working on all these fixes, rather than pushing out more new things that kept on giving us the apprehensions of not able to start after the updating. At least I had already developed that apprehension unfortunately.

Please help us poor users who used Fusion 360 to develop a business already. It is not a good idea to switch to another program because we do not have time to change. We can only go forward. So please give us poor commercial users some more considerations. We need the program to work, not a program that we fear! Thanks for listening.

even though I feel that this thread is being hijacked - I agree!
