Why is everything grey?

In Fusion 360, like this forum, all text, lines and click boxes are greyed out. How can I change this to basic black? Often I think something is not available to click on when it may be becaue it is greyed out? Us old blind guys need to know! It really would make life easier with Fusion.

Hi,

Thanks for asking.

Grey on white contrast is considered easier on the eyes than black and white, but this is just regarding things like text.

When it comes to many other Fusion objects, there are intentional "dimming" or "transparency" effects that are used purposefully in the interface design. Are you also concerned with the "grey"ness of these objects?

If you put up a screenshot of what you see, and use a mark up tool like Paint or JING to circle or point things out, it would really help us understand what bothers you.

To answer your question, the closest thing you get in Fusion is found on the Navigation bar, under Environments. The various environments have slightly different color schemes.

(Menu is shown below, you want to pick Environment and try a different one)

Thanks,

I tried your suggestion and turning off anti-alasing made the drawing much sharper. The other issues still exist.

I have attached a screen shot. The two left buttons are active and can be clicked on, the one on the right is not. The line I added is black to give an idea what it would look like. Even as I write this this text is greyed out as well and is much harder to read than if it were black. Another text comparison is attached as well, I found it in an article about reducing eye strain.

In fact to be "easy on the eyes" means that it is easy to see and this grey is certainly not that, black on white is the second easiest combination to see after black on yellow. This grey will add to the eye strain that many computer users complain about and make FUSION 360 less usable. Don't listen to those designing "the look" of the software, listen to those that use it.

I would really like to escalate this complaint. What is my next step?

I'm sorry it's a bad experience for you. Have you tried turning up the contrast on your monitor, or making text and buttons larger?

What I suggested earlier is changing environments. I tried to show this without having to make a special image for it, and failed to get my point across.

So without any special explanation, I'd like you to look at the different environments to see if it makes any difference. Hopefully that is clear.

Regarding your attachments: I tried to open your attached images and my antivirus will not let me. There is something odd with those screenshot files. Can you post a JPG instead of TIFF and GIF?

As far as escalating this complaint, you are speaking to the right person. However this is not considered a bug, and therefore must be posted on Idea Station as a suggested improvement. Users can vote on your idea and we implement the ones that have broad community support.

I'll ask a community representative to chime in here, to let you know where to complain about this page.

Thanks for the feedback,

I find the grey on white that Fusion uses for the forum and help is far less easy to read than the black on white used on other sites. Other Autodesk forums use black on white so it seems odd that someone's decided this site needs to be a grey smudge, take a look at the CAM forum it's far easier on the eyes!

I would concur, it would be helpful if more user interaction to adjust text and color choices became available, would be helpful for all but especially those with vision difficulties. It's quite straining on the eyes on my end as it is.
In time perhaps.

Thanks

@HughesTooling

Thanks for pointing out that you can change text color while you type. I am trying it out right now.

Here is where that contol is:

Thanks for the feedback about Fusion UI and the forum. I've passed it on, and don't forget to put up that Idea Station post about changing the Fusion UI.

I'm curious, does changing the contrast, brightness, resolution, etc. of your display make any difference? Just trying to offer suggestions here to make your experience better today.

This is a big improvement, at least while pounding on the keys.

Hey guys - re: the forum text color, thanks for the feedback.  After the refresh done a few months ago, the team took the feedback and made the unread threads black/bold, and the read threads dark grey.  For the body of a post itself, i'll look into making the default text color black.

@IanRobertson@HughesTooling@kshea9RNL8 Good news - we just went live with an update that changed the body of text for a post to default to black!  We've still left some other aspects as grey, but I think this should hopefully improve readability of the posts.  One note, the text when formulating a post is still appearing grey in the text editor, but it will actually be black once you submit the post (unless you selected a different color from the editor).
