Why does Fusion allow eleting elements of a sketch when not in Sketch Edit Mode?

I am doing sketch comprehension training on a practice file. I have a fully defined sketch and even though I am not in edit mode, I am able to delete parts or all of the scratch.

 What is the rationale that allows us to remove parts of a sketch without going into edit mode.
