I modified the sketch profile to add the flange areas on the sides.
I'm unable to select them to add to the original profiles, and in fact if I deselect the originals I can't even reselect them.
Maybe something to do with the red highlighted edges, which I also don't understand, as I don't see any warning.
Hard to tell from the screen grab but have you turned off show profiles in the sketch. Try editing the sketch and check on the sketch palette.

No I was just trying to replicate that but haven't figured out the cause yet.
