These color bars popped up after the last update. At least I think it was an update thing.

Anyone know what this is supposed to indicate?

you have "component color swatches" enabled in this design.  Not sure how this happened.  This maps components to features in the timeline.  You can turn it off in this menu on the gear icon in the lower right, next to the timeline:

The hot key is shift+N, did you by chance press that combo?
