What is the 'Activate component' button for?

Hi, 

on the right hand side of each component there is a small circle shaped button. (see attached image).

If I hover the mouse over that button it shows 'Activate component'.

What is this button and/or function for? What can I do with 'Activate components'?

It focuses the design on that component. Any construction features, sketches, etc. that are created when a component is activated will go inside that component. It's very useful in complex assemblies. To go back to normal you need to activate the top (root) level component.
