What did I do to cause this?

I started a new drawing and the appearance of the body I created is nothing like the grey metallic I usually get, its more like a white mass with dashed outline.

The 2 attachments are screen shots: Appearance 1 is what I usually see, and Appearance 2 is what I get now. I've obviously done something stupid, but I've no idea what.

Can anybody help please?

Hi,

Thanks for asking.

Did you change your default physical or appearance material? This is done in preferences, which is under the menu with your name on it in the upper right corner.

Another thing you could try is adding new appearances to the model. Can you right click, start appearances, browse for a new appearance and then drag it onto your parts?

If that doesn't work, can you try a couple more things. First, restart your computer, and second, use the graphics diagnostic tool (on the ?Help menu), and paste the results here?

Thanks,

I tried setting up two other materials in addition to the default of "Steel - Satin" - "A type frosted bulb" and "Black Plastic". The Black Plastic worked, but the the Steel - Satin didn't.

I rebooted the computer and tried again - with the same result. I checked the material used for the other model and it was Steel - Satin, it worked for that model but not for this one.

I have attached a few more screen shots, including the Graphics Diagnostics.

Since there is a limit of 3 attachments, I've attached the actual Fusion model to the next post in the hopes that something becomes obvious.

Hi @lemelman,

Thanks for sharing the design.  Somewhere along the way you must have applied an appearance to this model.  You can tell this if you bring up the Appearance command - there is a material "A type Bulb - Frosted - 1500lm" in use in this model, and you can select the objects that it is applied to.

Here is a screencast showing this and you can remove this appearance:

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

That worked and I've now got Steel - Satin applied. But I still don't understand how dragging Black Plastic to the model was accepted, but dragging Steel - Satin wasn't until I first deleted Bulb - Frosted.

Also, why is "your" Appearance Li bray window different to mine? The screenshots show what I mean.

Hi @lemelman,

Interesting.  I will have to dig into the reason why "Steel - Satin" does not work (I see the same thing, by the way).  It seems like a bug.

As to why you appearance is different than mine, Fusion seems to think it is updating itself.  That's not a state that should exist for long periods of time.  Have you tried exiting and re-starting Fusion?

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I restarted Fusion and get the same "Appearance window" layout as before. The About screen says 2.0.2535
