Weird performance issues on imported STEP files

Hi,

I'm currently working on an open source 3d printer that i'm modifying a bit. I've imported the complete STEP assembly which basically worked and i could already work with it. It's never been really performant but you could work ok with it.

Now (i'm not sure what has changed since i last worked on it) it's nearly impossible. On view changes or right clicking on elements in the browser fusion sometimes take a pause from 3 to 5 seconds until it reacts. I just tried working on a sketch which was nearly impossible. I've already switched of 95% of the components in the drawing but that doesn't change anything performance wise.

I've attached the file so you can check it out at your end. (for size reason it's on the dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6o3kw1fmvs57jxa/eusthatios_test.f3d?dl=0)

I'm on an 2013 iMac i7 with 32GB RAM and also tried on an older iMac with 16GB Ram. Though the older one normally is far behind the newer one in Fusion360 performance there's not noticable difference here.

Keen to hear what you think.

Hi Frank, I just loaded that, and wow, what a massive model!  On my cheap Windows machine, everything works pretty good with the model.  Except in what component was the sketch you were trying to work on?

Claas was also having performance issues on Mac OS, specifically with sketch constraints slowing things down:  http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-and-documentation/symmetry-constraint-results-into-massive-scre...

Nothin special. I already have issues rotating the model without stutters every few seconds - also when only the frame component with subcomponents is switched on.

I also don't think it is too massive as the geometry in there isn't that complicated - Fusion360 should be able to handle this on a computer that is performant enough for lots of other resource hungry operations.

Gotcha.  Well I got my PC machine for well under a hundred bucks, and since I know there are a lot of graphics performance issues in Mac OS that software developers have to deal with, such as bad performance of OpenGL (that hopefully will improve with the availability of Metal, see http://www.imore.com/metal-os-x-so-huge-i-no-longer-need-mac-pro), it may be something to think about for the time being, for graphics applications such as Fusion 360 where you're just trying to get work done.

I just posted my computer specs on another thread, so thought I would post it here.

Ok, my PC, which I got on Ebay (refurbished) for well under $100, and can vouch works great with Fusion 360, includes an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz, 4Gig of RAM, and separate under $20 video card with 1 Gig of RAM.

I just wanted to point this out once more: Fusion360 usually runs quite well even on more complex drawings (of course it's slower then but still very usable).

There seems to be something wrong with this file in special (probably only in combination with Mac OSX) but it shouldn't be purely graphics related as it also happens with 95% of the drawing switched off and it isn't just a general slowness but more stutters every view seconds and also delays - for example when i try to bring up the context menu on one of the components in the browser.
