Hi how's it going, I'm currently trying to develop a sketch with many little components. I replicated the general outline via the rectangular pattern tool and am having a lot of trouble making basic edits.

Often times when I try and move this dense sketch the entire program will either crash, hang for a couple of minutes in an endless loop or simply black out.

This has happened on three different computers, one of which is a loaded gaming PC with more than enough horsepower to run this sort of task. Is there something I'm missing as to why I cannot edit these sketches easily? All but one of the computers were equipped with SSD's but the story is always the same.

Thanks in advance!

It should be very very rare that you use Rectangular Pattern in a sketch.

It is almost always easier and better to keep sketches simple and then Pattern Features rather than sketch entities.

Post screen shot of your sketch or attach your *.f3d file (you are saving often, right?).

Interesting, do you mind elaborating on how to pattern features? (or just a link in the right direction will suffice). Thanks a lot!

Here is a screenshot of the sketch, it isn't in sketch mode currently I just took an angled shot. It's essentially a pattern for a strand of material, the material will sit inside the enclosure.

Just to give you an idea of how I went about this: I sketched out the shape with dimensional constraints throughout the top strand and then used the rectangle pattern tool and project "x" amount of pieces down vertically. I was under the impression that this method was most efficient.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you need anymore information. Thank you!

I don't go to 3rd part sites on my clean Fusion machine.

Can't you attach the image here?

or

better yet

the actual *.f3d file?

Sorry I'm out right now, but I can host the image for you. Here you go:

And yes, I would agree:  This is job for feature pattern, not sketch pattern.  I agree that this is not obvious, and that sketch patterns should not be as slow as they are.  However, until we fix that, feature pattern will almost always be more efficient.

I can't tell from the image the exact geometry involved here, but here is a screencast example of doing just the slots for a model similar to this one:

Hope this helps,

Jeff
