Wakeboard / Kiteboard Design advice requested.

Hi there forum!

I am learning Fusion 360 with the hopes of being able to design my own kiteboard. I am looking for guidance on the best way to create a kite board that I can modify the camber and rocker easily throughout the process. Here is an example of a finished product and it's layers. I want to know how I can make a board with all these layers and also be able to adjust the overall shape of it without having to alter every single layer individually. For example if I design the board and complete it but want to change the rocker of the board, is it possible to create a model that will respond to this? I've attempted a design in the SCULPT mode but am not sure how I would then split the finished model into the layers needed. Also, I have begun trying to design one in sketch mode too. I would appreciate your suggestions on the best way to design this! Thanks.

Hi,

This is a method to do it, and the best part about it is that you can change the lofted body and everything that was trimmed off will update accordingly

Thanks so much Saeed.

I get the principle there, but perhaps I should have been more concise on my requirements.

I wish to design a kiteboard like this (It's approximately 15mm thick with around 5 layers as you saw before): I think using the form tool is best, but how would I then create 5 layers from this one form?

Hi,

Could you please explain where the five layers should be coming from?
Did you mean that you want to split this body into 5 layers or copy it five times above each other to form different layers like my video above?

Regards

I would like to split the board design into 5 layers of differing thickness. AND I would like to be able to modify the board design in FORM mode and have the layers follow the modification.

I have attached a video example of my board and my attempts to create layers, but I think it is the wrong way to do it.

Are the different layers, constant thickness?, (without thinning to the outside edges,)

like five layers of plywood glued together? 3, 6, 9, 6, 3mm, or similar

If so, I would Loft or Sweep in the Patch Area, and then offset / thicken, etc etc.

a modification to the loft profile, will carry through all.

will sleep on it, Might help...

What is your end goal? You example graphic most likely only has one "contoured" part and the rest are simply laminated in a press onto the wood core and then take their shape in the process. If you want to make a bunch of one-off boards, there's going to be a lot of processes for each one. Designing the wood core is the first step, then you can mill one of the surfaces, then mill a negative of that surface so you can flip the board over to mill the other side. Alternatively you could mill two forms that you could use to "lay-up" your board in a press. Either process, you really don't benefit from "modeling" all the various layers and thicknesses. Hope this helps, and I hope you're able to get your completed boards out on the water and up in the air.

Here is a great example of what I'm talking about

Hi,

Sure it can be done, this is the same principle used above, but I guess using a splitting tool is the tricky thing here, but still the same principle

Watch this screencast please, I hope it helps

Kind regards
