The new UI may be aesthetically pleasing to some with its close to super unsaturated (gray and pastel) scheme, it is a great step backwards in functionality.  For example, I find it very difficult to distinguish the show/hide symbols, as both are rendered in light gray and of a similar shape.  From a functionality standpoint, this is greatly inferior to the old method (high contrast and color coded) symbols.  The entire color palette is now in pastels and grays, with little contrast and color.  There is no purpose to not making the symbols easy to read, at a glance.  In fact, it is the opposite of good UI design practice.  Someone has applied a room decorating mentality to a computer program's User Interface with predictably awful results.  Please revamp this interface using actual computer/screen User Interface expertise.
