Variable Radius Fillet Question

Hi, I am a real beginner and have been watching Lars Christensen's excellent tutorials. I want to create a fillet with a reduced radius at each end so that the last 3-4mm of the recess the fillet radius transitions to a smaller diameter. I thought about creating the recess shape in 3 parts using splines so that the middle section would be the main fillet radius and then use the variable radius fillet command on the end 2 spline curves. But doing it this way does not produce a smooth curve for the recess.

Hope this is clear, any help greatly appreciated.

The variable radius fillet command lest you define as man locations for a radius as you need, not just the ends.  just add more points.
