using stl file for reference of design

Good day,

I have a 3d scan of a wing that I would like to model. the scan is pretty good and I plan to clean it up in meshmixer.

My question is, is there a way to use the stl geometry as a reference for making sketches of the airfoil shapes so I can loft it. I would like to slice the wing perpendicular to the leading edge and create planes at the slice locations. I would then like to project the STL file geometry to the sketch plane at the slice so I can draw a spline for lofting. hopefully that makes sence...

Thanks

Tim

timmyklus,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 community forum.

Fusion 360 has some limitations with STL meshes:

I would expect that your wing will be more than 10000 points.

Also after you have washed it through Meshmixer to shrink the number of points, the profiles that your looking for could vary well be compromised.

At least knowing that there is a limitation in the number of points will help in your testing.

Thank you again for utilizing Fusion 360.
