Using SpaceBar to Pan

Att: Autodesk

Hi, I use a Magic Mouse on my iMac and I have grown to love the feature on Autocad 2013+ whereby I hold down the space bar to pan on the screen - Can you please include this feature in Fusion 360? It would certainly speed up my workflow.

I would like to recommend you post the requirement to IdeaStation.

Thanks for that, but I dont think that has any relevance to what I'm saying, I just want to be able to hold down the SpaceBar to enable the Pan feature when movign around the screen.

I created a wish item in our internal system and then our development team will review/estimate your requirement. Thank you for coming up with the idea.

Thanks, though I dont deserve the credit as this was Autodesks in Autocad 2013 & 2014 initially but has been removed on Fusion. 🙂

+1! Essential.

All Adobe products use this shortcut as well.

Any movement on this great idea? Trying to use Fusion 360 with an Apple Magic Mouse is frustrating to say the least. The spacebar to pan is a no-brainer and a hot-key to substitute the lack of a middle mouse button would be great too.

hi ryanc44LNW4L,

we likely will not implement this any time soon.  On the surface this seems pretty easy, however, the main challenge is when you're in within the context of a command that requires input value, say extrude for example, the input field takes priority and is listening for all input from the keyboard.  Using the spacebar for pan would break either spaces in the input feild (e.g. say you're typing in an equation and need spaces) or panning, we haven't come up with a reasonable solution for this.  We have looked into it on numerous occasions and are yet to find a reasonable compromise.  If we can land ona a viable solution we will reevaluate this capability.  In the mean time I have had success running magic prefs and setting up the magic mouse with a virtual third button.  maybe give that a try if you haven't already.

 hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. Ah yes that is a bit more complex of an issue and I can understand why that won't work.

I will check out magic prefs, but what about implementing a preference/hotkey for creating a virtual middle mouse button? I believe Blender does this by assign the ALT key as their option for non-three-button mouse users. Again seems to be a simple, logical solution, but maybe I'm again missing something more complex issue here 🙂
