using a coverted .stl as a split tool

Hi,

I have an STL file that i want to use a split tool, but Fusion flakes out and I get a black screen.

the converted stl has a large amount of triangles, and the model being split was designed in fusion as a solid model.

I am trying to copy the curve from the converted stl to my solid model

I have a i9, 18 core PC with 64 gig of ram. fyi.

I turned off design history

here is the link to download

what is inside the converted .stl mesh is what i am trying to keep.

I have always had a difficult time working with stl files even after i convert to solid ....  what am i missing?

What do you observe when you examine the geometry?

Here is what I observe.

No curves, not a single one. Zip, Nil, Nada.

Only straight lines and thousands of faceted planar triangles.

I would expect to see smooth flowing curved geometry for a design like this.

I thing the GIGO Principle applies here.

If this were my work - I would use the stl only as reference in recreating proper high-quality geometry.

To reduce the mesh and make it editable, I reduced it and converted it back to solid.

Created 3 sketches and made a loft.

Then I cut out the part.

I think that might be accurate enough.
