Updating an Exported Component Version

To export components, I have made the component Active and then used the R-click and Save Copy As approach. This saves the component to my project folder as: ComponentName V1.

Now I have made some changes to one component and need to now update the exported component without creating a new export and link. I want the exported component updated to the new revision level. How can I update to: ComponentName V2. The process seems to create a new exported component?

Whenever you perform a Save Copy As, the resulting file is not "linked" to the original design. It sounds like the best thing to do is to perform a Save Copy As to get a new version of the file. If you are looking to keep some sort of version history, it should be saved in the original "assembly" design.

However, if you are adamate about creating a new version for the "Save Copy As"'ed design, there is an option if our right click on a design in the Data Panel to upload a new version. You may be able to use an exported version of the new design to manually add a version to the separate design. I hope that makes sense.

I hope that helps!

Thanks,

Nathan Chandler sent me these procedures and they seem to work. I have sugested that it would be nice, easier, and faster if it could be incorporated with Fusion.

If you broke a component out of an "assembly" design by using the Save copy as and then shared a public link, you could update this link by:

1. Make the changes to the "parent" assembly design file.

2. Perform a Save Copy As to break the component out into its own design

3. Export a local archive of this single design file to your local computer

4. Find the old version of the single design in the data panel

5. Right click on this design and select "upload a new version"

6. This should automatically update the current version and the public link should reflect this.

Thank you Nathan.
