several issues.

  1.  F360 installed on computers with admin privileges preventing use by non-admin users when an update is issued.
    1. school has F360 installed by the IT staff on day shift, I go to class in the evenings.
    2. if there is an update issued, I am unable to use F360 until the update is performed, which could be a day or two, depending on staff availability and communication channels.
  2. Given situation above, my instructor is able to log into F360 with his credentials, have it update and continue using it.  If he logs out, and I sign in, I am given notice that I can not proceed due to an update needing to be performed (all this on the same computer, and we got the same result on multiple computers).  We also logged into a windows computer where the instructor has admin privileges and got the same results)
  3. As above, I can log into F360, but I am unable to access my data in the cloud (via F360) because an update needs performed. Working off-line is pointless without the data.

Might I suggest a 7-day transition / grace period for updates?  This might alleviate a plethora of update related issues

adding...forgot to mention-  When I got home to one of my personal computers, I signed in and I was treated as though it was a new install, I had to go back in and reset all my preferences.

Hi @k6ls,

From the sounds of it - is your school using the streaming install of Fusion 360 (the normal one that you can download from our website?). If so - you might want to check our educational lab installation package. By default - Fusion will install to the local user profile, which most students will not have access to due to admin rights. Our lab installer stores the installation in the program files and does not force automatic updates. Also, the lab installer does not stream the update/installation - it is a self-contained downloaded package. What happens here is the admin will have to manually push out the lab update to all the computers in the lab - and you can sign up for the update notifications on our education site.

This article here should have all the information you need! Let me know if you have any questions or if I misread your question!

Edit: Just saw that you were the student! I would send that article to your IT/Instructor or if you want I can get in contact with them.

Thanks,

Hi @k6ls,

It shouldn't - you are right, I missed that you were staying on the same computer in your post. Just to verify - you are staying logged in as the professor on the Windows/Mac user profile correct? Only thing you are logging out of is Fusion? The odd part is (and my guess) is that it keeps trying to update per user - letting me think that the update was never successful for any user, regardless of the message. Can you attach your installation log files to this post? This should give me a better idea of what might be happening during the update. This guide here shows you how to obtain that log.

Also, feel free to PM me if you want me to take this offline and remote in and see what might be going on. That is strange and hopefully we can get you back up and running ASAP!

Thanks,

Hopefully this will help clarify my original post --

Generally speaking, all the computers in the lab have the same generic Windows login (non-admin).  There are no individual accounts for students, only staff.

From any of the lab computers, under the generic login, launching F360  brings me to an AutoDesk/F360 login, I use my credentials and gain access to F360.

if I try and access any of my cloud material, I am met with the update required by administrator pop-up window.

In F360, if I click on my user name in the upper right, and select log-off, F360 rolls back to the AutoDesk/F360 login prompt. Then the Instructor

logs in with his credentials and can proceed to use F360 without any problems.  If he does as I did, just logging out, and I log back in, then the update

notice appears.

we tried the above in the opposite direction, having restarted F360 and starting with the instructor logging in first; the update 'problem' follows my account only.

If we change the Windows login to his staff account (supposedly with admin permissions) on the same computer(s) the same conditions exist (update problem only for me)

I'm not sure how F360 was installed on the lab computers, IT staff is supposed to contact me tonight and try and work things out.
I will use this thread to work with them and sort this out.
