Units in 21st century

Hello TF360,

I just have tried to define area userParam. My designs are in mm. I confidently scrolled dropDown Units menu, clicked Area field,… and I have had experienced the shock!

On the list, I see acre and circular_mil. Nothing else.

I immediately constrained myself not even trying to think about what circular_mil means. So, only because of my responsive sub-conciseness, I was able to recover a little bit and write this post.

My apparent other (no)choice was acre. I selected it, although for millimetres base design it was a little bit humorous. Nevertheless, I accepted it as the antidote pill for the rest of the day.

For concerned about my well being, I am fine now as ever. Acres saved my day.

Curious, and in a good mood, I decided to click once more. My natural selection was to check Volume. Believe me or not instead of the next shock, I experienced choking laughter.

The Volume list contains:

l (vodka), gal (gas), qt (milk), pt (beer), cup(coffee), fl_oz (perfumes)

These were not the reason I was laughing. The reason was that there was no:

bunch (of flowers), bowl (of rice), fistful (of dollars), balloon (of incompetencies) on the list.

Also, nowhere in sight were:

mm3, cm3, m3, etc.minor issue though and too severe to be laughing.

TF360, I understand that there are more pressing tasks on the table as for example, selection of sophisticated colour for the eyeball icon. However, could you also find some time to look at the calendar and notice that it is the 21st century now, hence it would be a reasonable date to modernise yourselves slightly?

Sincerely

MichaelT

PS.

TO OTHERS – BE CAREFUL CLICKING IN EXOTIC PLACES

I mostly agree with your complaint. But to be fair, acre and circular mill are both still commonly used in modern times.

How does this not have more upvotes? Not having m2 for Area units and m3 for Volume units as options is absolutely ridiculous! The majority of the technical world uses metric units...

July 2022 and the lack of common area and volume units issue is still not addressed. The first complaint I read about this shortcoming was dated 2017. Should I renew my license or jump ship to a serious CAD software? Also, once you choose the wrong unit for a parameter, you cannot edit it. You have to delete the parameter altogether, truly unbelievable!!!
