Undercut Joint

Hello,

I'm working on a 3D printed project that I've modeled as one large shelled peice. It's the base of a stand. What I would like to do is now split off pieces that I can print seperatley, but will snapfit and glue back together once they are all printed.

I'm basically trying to make overlapping joints out of something that is already modelled as one piece. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

Rob

Without knowing exactly what you want to do and without having so much of a screenshot to go by I'd say yes.

Split body is probably your friend

Here is what the base of the stand looks like.

What I am trying to accomplish is creating a joint like what you would find on any manufactured plastic product. I would like to split off the four sides of the base in the picture so that they can be printed seperately. Then after I have all the pieces printed, snap fit them together with a dab of glue to assemble the pieces.

I'm interested in knowing what techniques are used to create this type of joint or if there is a feature within the software to do this.
