Unable to split a simple body

This seems to be a common problem, but I haven't been able to find a solution.

I have a tapered cylinder that I need to create a shallow groove in the inside wall with a box body, but I get an error "No intersection between target and split tool" when there clearly is.
I'd love to know why this doesn't work.

Combine > Cut works as expected,

Split body requires more than 1 body as an outcome.

Might help....

Hi,

Why not try to use the face of the body to be inserted into the cylinder to do an extrude cut?

If the body is properly lined up the way you want it simply select the face to extrude and set

the extrude to Cut. It should then just cut out your groove or slot you want.

Don't know why your method doesn't work but this one clearly does.

Cheers

Andrew

Bingo! That works perfectly, thank you.
The word "Combine" in this case is confusing to the beginner, as it does not suggest a split. The FreeCAD command "Boolean" perhaps describes the options better.

Thanks again 🤝

Thank you for your solution, which I did not need to try as you were beaten to the post by a nose and the nose worked.
