Unable to mirror a pattern

When I attempt to mirror features which include a pattern across a midplane I am getting the error "No pattern instances could be intersected with the original body. Try adjusting the pattern settings, or changing the selections."

Find my design attached. I am trying to mirror the cabinet side including the drawer runner bodies and circular cuts created with a rectangular pattern according to the user parameter TRAY_COUNT.

Steps to recreate error:

  1. Open mirror function
  2. Select 'Features' object type
  3. Select the features: Extrude2, Extrude4, Extrude5, R-Pattern2
  4. Select Mirror Plane: Plane1
  5. Click OK

I am very far from an expert. I think what I am trying to achieve is clear. How best to do it?

  • perhaps my use of pattern function is misguided. eg I do not need 2 axis but cannot get rid of 2nd.
  • perhaps I need to mirror and then pattern both sides separately?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I won’t have access to the file for a while,

Mirror the resultant body/ies,

(Extrude?) Cuts would have to land on the same body, for mirror feature to work.

Might help...

Thanks Dave. If I understand your suggestion correctly -

I am unable to mirror the bodies because the number of bodies is not known. This is because bodies are created according to a user parameter (ie the user parameter TRAY_COUNT is entered into the quantity field of a pattern feature).

The issue is the order of operations. Do you want to also mirror the side panel (body2)?

Hello Peter

Yes I do want to mirror the side (body2). I was attempting to do this by mirroring the feature Extrude2.

Please could you explain further. Unfortunately I am unable to open your upload because we do not have the latest Fusion update installed here at our school.

Hello Peter

Actually your response mentioning bodies and order sent me in the right direction. I have sorted this now thanks. I had to mirror the bodies and then pattern (rather than pattern and then mirror).

Thanks!
