Unable to create a canvas

I am trying to ad a canvas to an existing sketch but I get the notice as follows:

Warning: The object that you are creating is not visible. Please toggle visibility in the browser.

The only problem is that the canvas tab is no longer in the browser.  I have found no way to make the canvas visible again.  Normally I would click on the light bulb but you cant do that if there is not even a tab with a light bulb to click.

I don't know if that workflow is possible,

Insert canvass whilst not editing a sketch works as it is inserted into the file. 

Could be your sketch is the article not visible, with the light bulb, I have done that edit sketch with the lightbulb off.
