Tutorial problem

I am working through the tutorials - the first one - and trying to connect the line for the neck to the newly created base. I cannot get the edge of the base to 'highlight' so the line will attach to it. This is the second time through the tutorial and the first time I didn't have this problem.

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

Just to check, when your sketch palette is open, do you have the Snap option checked? Off the top of my head, that is the only thing I believe that would be stopping you from selecting the base as a point to sketch off of. Do you think you could create a screencast showing us your steps and what is going on? This will help us troubleshoot this a little quicker. You can download screencast at:

Also, just to check, did you make sure that you are sketching on the correct plane? This may be a factor in why you cannot select the line, but again, without seeing what is going on I can only speculate.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

That's really strange, from what I can see it looks like it should be working. One thing that weirds me out is the color difference on the drafted part of the base. It almost looks like there is a plane or a patch on it causing the odd orange colored surface. Do you mind sharing your file with me (james.youmatz@autodesk.com) so I could take a peek and make a screencast showing how to do it.

Thanks,

Hi Scott, I watched your screencast. After you make a sketch that passes through your object, you need to do a intersection projection to get the line you want (see image below).

Also you have two surfaces that are coincident on the top of your object, that's why you have the odd coloration that James mentioned.

Sorry, I was mistaken. You could do as I suggested but the problem I believe is that you have 3D sketch active, if you turn it off then what you are trying to do should work.

We tried that too, but it didn't work either. Rebooted and reset the defaults but still no luck. Again it worked once but not now. Sent from my iPhone
