TTF font not showing up

twitos

Hi,

I just added a few fonts to Windows and the only one that I cannot select is the one I need :(. It is the Bitwise font that you can find here.

I saw 2 other threads pages similar problems (here and here), but they date almost a year or more so this may not be the same problem.

I am looking at tracing it in Gimp or Inkscape, but wanted to raise this bug (?) here.

Hi @twitos,

We excluded some type of fonts on purpose because they might not be designed well for modeling in Fusion. Here is a way to turn them all on:

In the text command at the bottom of the application window,  type the following command:

Sketch.TextWritingSystem /any

Run the sketch text command again and you should be able to see the bitwise font now.

Untitled.png

what to do?

There are radio buttons in the bottom right corner -- change from the default "Py" (Python) to "Txt". This allowed my missing fonts to show up. Unfortunately they still cannot be extruded, but it's at least a start so I can trace them I guess...

Original post was 2018 and this is still a problem.

Can't use some fonts...\

Convert from .ttf to .otf - yeah they work...

No... Wait... You can see them but you can't extrude them... So what good are they?

I'm *still* doing type in Adobe Illustrator and bringing in SVG files.  Are you kidding?

Hello,

I have the same problem here.

Tried font "Topspeed" as .ttf from lots of download portals but could never bring to show up.

(even "Sketch.TextWritingSystem /any" didn't work)

When I converted one to .otf it was selectable but as clint already mentioned, not extrudable.

Is there any way to make this font usable?

best regards,

René

Hi,

Note: Fusion prefers OTF!

Hi Günther,

yes, it does. At least if you like to have the font selectable.

I converted the .ttf into .otf via an online converter. But I still can't extrude the font which I need to to design a certain type of badge.

Any other ideas to get the font working?

Regards,

René

Hi @Anonymous , if you can tell me what string you want to use, and what's the size of the text, I will help to create a svg so that you can import and continue your work.

Hi,

1. What font are you using?
2. Do you use the "Taper" option for extrusion?
3. does the extrusion work if the text is converted with "Explode" before?

4. create the text in Inkscape .. and import the SVG into Fusion

Thanks.  I have Illustrator too: I can make an SVG.  The offer is kind though.

The issue is not about making an SVG for the text.  The issue is that *you have to* make an SVG for the text *because* Fusion so poorly handles many many fonts.

Yes there are plenty of band-aides for the problem.

That's just it.  It is a problem that should be fixed.  Most other programs don't suffer from such poor font support.

Hello Günther,

1.) I am using the font Topspeed (as .otf - as .ttf it won't even show up in the list of fonts)

2.) No. Don't use any taper options

3.) No. I get a warning if I try to explode the text (I use german settings. For "Explosionsansicht der Zeichnung erstellen" I get warning: "Warnung: Die Profile des ausgewählten Texts konnten nicht abgerufen werden!")

4.) That would be my last option if anything else fails.

Thanks for your help!

René

Hell yqliu,

thank you very much for the kind offer. I really appreciate!

There are only 4 letters (mikl) that I need to outline. I think I will somehow manage it by mself, maybe using Inkscape as Günther proposed.

I thought there would be an option that Fusion can handle it and I am missing some options to configure or, as I am an absolute beginner, doing something terribly wrong.

René

Ok, it seem as if I need more help than expected 🙂

Downloaded Inkscape, wrote text mikl in fon topspeed and saved as... svg (normal) file.

When I insert it into Fusion I can see the word mikl but not in the desired font.

Tried to switch between .otf and .ttf again but no luck.

Any further advices?

Best,

René

Hi,

great! It took a while until i realised you're meaning Inkscape and not Fusion 😉

But it worked for me now.

Thank you all for your help.

René
