Trying to make a cut

Im trying to make a cut on the blue surface, the cut begins when it reaches the other surface. 

Im trying to use the split tool but i think im using it wrong. if someone could help me that would be appreciated ! thankyou

From the left, - right or bottom?

so i want it to stop at the black line, and get rid of all the yellow shaded part basically

Should be able to use your black line as a cutter for split body, if it is a body, 

If it is a sketch then you could trim the right side away, but

Either way you cant do anything to the linked component.
