Trying to make a airduct/funnel

I have been working on this air duct for my drag car. I have got the basic shape pretty much done but I'm getting stuck on the funnel part. I'm fairly new to fusion and just learned basic principles of sketches. Where before I was just doing a bunch of extrudes. Ill attach my current workflow. I was trying to use the loft feature on the shelled surface to make the funnel part. Also, just learned recently that all the lines on the sketch needs to be black. I am struggling to understand how to make them black. I add dimensions and constrains but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. So I'm just not understanding something. In my workflow, you should see how messy the sketch is. Is this why the loft wont work on the shelled faces? The actual body is a little off and I need to push/pull.

Here I was able to fix the sketch 13 to make a lines white in my case. Is this what allowed me to thicken to 3mm. I just made the purple projection appear as construction. Then just made a line and some 2 point tangent arcs to make it legit.  Regarding the tunnel.  The top patch/upper loft is the tunnel when thickened. Take a peek at the attached file.  Body 437 is the body that is 3mm now.

This is my most recent update. I uploaded some pictures as well. I am satisfied with this final result. Although, if I had to complain about one thing, it would be the front right side. The picture is to highlight that gap. That gap isn't really visible unless viewing from up close.  Its like I just need to bend that outer edge further right.

Now even though I made this fit, is the technique I used in fusion correct? I did try to fix things you mentioned above and let fusion do the hard work.

Second, what would be the best/easiest way to mirror this for the other side?

I have not looked through the timeline in detail yet, but for better geometry I would never create geometry directly from these mesh section sketches. I personally use those sketches as visual aids to create the curves using control point splines. That creates much cleaner curves, which results in vastly improved geometry. In a simple project like this that may not make any difference, but if more complex models, these surface artifacts can interfere with modeling.

Also, if modifications need to be made, mesh section curves cannot really be edited. Control point splines are very easy to edit.

haha oh no! After all that modelling the curvature was wrong. How did you get that shape to begin with? Did you 3D scan the opening?

You mention Control point splines. Would that be easy to work with the existing model? Or is that a from scratch type of thing?

In your screenshot, what are you Projecting? Is this the same project that I use in sketches?

I ended up just using cardboard and tracking the hole to get the curve.  I do have a 3d scanner ( Revo Pop 1 or 2) but not sure if that would of been useful here. I only scanned one thing and was pretty dissatisfied with it. However, it could be user error for sure lol.

The screenshots are what the Analysis->Curvature Map returns.

You'd have to re-create the geometry from scratch using control point splines.

Oh buddy! All this detailed modelling work and skimped on the first step! Do you have an iphone?

There has been no reference to Mesh sections since page one of the thread.

I have demoed best sketching practise with my tunnel / duct.

@jpmxrider489  Templates and tweaking the size and shape of the opening, to sketch 13, will close the gap, but how much I can’t say from the glossy photo.

There is a straight line in sketch 13 where you need to add the wider curve, then you can make the straight line construction.

Mirror - in your Slicer, if you trust the tunnels to be mirrored.  Not me, I would persist with more accuracy obtaining a left and right tunnel template first.

Might help.....

Negative, I use a galaxy s22 (not a big apple guy at the moment).  Never cared to much for phone tech because I work in the auto industry. Its always on the tool box getting dirty. Its a shame but its the truth lol.

Ill try and tighten up the sketch geometry.

When I asked bc iphones have a good 3D scanner built in, its the front facing camera used for the FaceID (True Depth). I even use it my field for custom orthotic and prosthetics.

But the S22 has some good apps for photogrammetry though.

Either option would be more much more accurate than a cardboard tracing.
