Trouble positioning objects... Any tips/tutorials?

Hey guys,

I've been trying to learn Fusion and things are moving along well but one of the things I have the toughest time with is positioning. In another program positioning is really easy using construction lines but in Fusion things seem to be a bit more complicated. My biggest trouble is doing a simple move in the same plane and often have a tough time getting snap points and differentiating what should be done with sketches etc. I'll give an example here...

I'm trying to make this wheel butt up against the rail, in the other CAD I use(MOI), it would be done simply with construction lines.

The same operation however in Fusion is seemingly impossible using the move tool, point to point moves in 3 dimensions and even then snap points aren't always where you need them to be. I could use the measuring tool but that can also be hard to get to function.

I've been searching for tips and tutorials on positioning but it doesn't seem that anybody has the same troubles I do. What are people doing differently? Are they using joints? Are they using construction lines that I can't find?(I know about line->construction in the sketch tool).

Thanks!

I would use a joint for that since you are (presumably) designing a 3d printer where the wheels are going to ride on the axis.

Hey guys! Thanks for answering! I understand what you're saying about a joint and it seems like that would be the best option. You're right, it is for a 3D printer, so that makes total sense. On the one hand, I'm very curious as to how you would make this a joint(a slider on a line that is offset?) but I'm also curious as to how you would simply position this up against the rail.

I've attached the two step files I'm working with!

Dane

Here's a way to do a slider joint with offset.

Thanks for all the replies and screencasts! The impression that I'm getting is that I can't do EXACT positioning but just something that is very close to it. In my NURBS program MOI, I'm able to snap stuff all the way up against an edge but I understand that the real world doesn't work like that either. In all of your screencasts you seem to position stuff roughly where it should be. I guess I'll just have to settle for that.
