Trim objects inside a sketch using a profile in another sketch

I have sketch with a complex profile I extrude to create a solid. Another sketch contains only a linear pattern of hexagons, they are tens. I would like to cut all hexagons and their parts which are outside the profile. Cannot find an easy way. The only procedure I can  think about is the following:

  1. copy the entire profile in the linear pattern sketch
  2. remove all the hexagon outside the profile and trim all the ones which cross the border

The last part is quite long if you have lots of objects cut in parts by the profile. I'm sure I'm missing the right functionality to achieve the same result in a few steps.

Please attach your model for a better answer.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

1.No! Pattern a single feature, not sketch.
2. Intersect  boundary.

Done!

Put a sample model in attachment. In the first sketch there is a circle, the shape I want to use to cut the hexagons is much more complex and I want to keep it in a separate sketch because it needs lots of constructions lines.

Hi,

For that, you should choose a different way.

Watch the screencast

In the example shown, an additional slope of the section is created.

@g-andresen

Thanks for your help but the final result I want is a sketch, not a solid. Solid objects will be created later.  I updated my example with a third sketch where in the top part I started  trimming the hexagons which cross the circle. It is a tedious work so I got tired soon and did it only partially and badly. Anyway I hope it is clear what I want.

Cannot understand if "2. Intersect  boundary. " is to a Fusion command or function, I cannot find it.

Hi,

Why be simple when you can be complicated?
In the screencast you can see how the trimming works when the circle profile is projected into the sketch. The problems that come along with it can be seen as well.
In the second part, I show how to project the previously created (and trimmed) body into a sketch to get a finished trimmed sketch.
You will realize the meaning of my suggestion at the latest when you want to make your model variable using parameters.
