"Line" suggest you are talking about Sketch elements. If so, there is the possibility of multiple co-located elements in the same Sketch, providing for the possibility something was trimmed, but without any readily apparent change. Or there may be aligned elements in other Sketches. Or some portion of the Sketch may be protected by Constraints or Links. Or you may be talking about Sketch elements that were created while Capture of Design History was dispensed with, then turned back on- it's really hard to say, so thinly described, without screencast or illustrations.

Now, that suggests you aren't talking about Sketch elements at all, but are attempting to, perhaps, delete some portion of a surface or Body. Some representations are like a house of cards, dependent on constituents to exist; is that the case here? I have no basis for saying.

What does that even really mean? Qualify "somewhat".

Most (all?) tools are toggled- not held active; the exception to this is modification keys, such as Ctrl, Alt, etc. So, "hold the trim button" doesn't translate to a Fusion action that I understand.

You might be describing a selection process, not application of the Trim tool, in that moment.

Your expectations of required time investment may or may not be reasonable. There may or may not be a workflow that delivers the desired result more efficiently. Since there is no indication as to what in particular is "very long", there is no basis for determination.

Now it sounds like you're talking about Sketch elements again, and, maybe, the previous word salad described Deleting groups of elements after Window Selecting them. Or maybe not. Perhaps I should have just written "huh?" here.
