Transitional constraint

I am looking for a transitional constraint between components to move one part on the surface of the other - like it works in Inventor.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Doris,

I'd recommend a combination of contact sets and joints. It will depend on the situation. The attached Screencast shows a couple examples.

You could try a planar joint. However, if thst's the right way to go is hard to say withoiut any information what kind of design you actually are working on.

In general the joint system in Fusion 360 is differnt from the usual geometric constraints/mating in other 3D CAD systems.

You can click on the joint symbol and select the surfaces you want to join for each component. Fusion 360 will suggest points on these surfaces to snap to. Just accept one for each surfae, let's say maybe the center points of each surface. The default is set to "rigid" for the joint, but in the joint dialogue box you can change this to planar.

Yes I used a planar joint then selected the center of the circular face of the cylinder and the center point of the slot in the plate. You also need to "ground" the plate so it is fixed in space when you drag. Here's a link to the assembly if you want to take a look. Download the Fusion 360 archive and upload to your project.
