How do you transfer an Autodesk project from one account to another? I have tried downloading the data files via A360, but all I get are empty file folders.

Hi @florian.b,

Are you working in a Team environment? If so, do you have a Team Hub set up? If so, you would be able to transfer projects fully from a personal hub to a Team hub, or from Team Hub to Team Hub. You cannot go from Team Hub to personal hub however.

More information can be found here. If you do not have a Team Hub, and would like access, please start a trial (that guide in my link will show you how) and provide me the Hub URL after creation and I can take it off trial mode.

Happy to provide as much information as you need!

Thanks,

I have the very same problem and I still don't see any easy workaround.
Iam an HW designer in a small company and I have made about twenty models on my own account during trial period just to convince our head of R&D to buy subscription to Fusion 360 - and it worked. So we created new (company) account and subscribed for an year.

The problem is, that I am now unable to easily transfer already completed work to this new account and the owner is my own personal account where I want to have a hobbyist licence for my free time. Do I really have to go one by one and download/upload every single model? Btw. the "download folder" doesn't work either.

Hi @Anonymous,

That is correct. Either a Team Hub will need to be created for your new company, and the project transferred from your trial account - or the data will have to be manually exported and reuploaded. Regarding the Download Folder - downloading .f3d or .f3z files is not supported with that button at this time. I know this lengthens the time for manual export.

Thanks,

HI,

I know this is an old post but how long does one have to wait for the shared files to show up in the new account?

I have just wasted 2 weeks with tech support to have them tell me I can't solve my problem and should start again -- super -- 3+ years of work dozens of projects hundreds of files that I can download one at a time from your cloud and then re-upload?

I am way past not impressed and would appreciate an honest answer.

I don't think they want you to be able do this...

My workaround that I've used is this (account A is the one with data I want to transfer, B is new account):

1. Log onto A and invite B in project that has the data you want to transfer.

2. Create new project in B and invite A in it.

3. From account A, you can now tranfer data from the old project (owned by A), to new one (owned by B).

3. Take back invitations.

Transfering data from cloud to PC and then back turned out to be real pain in the a.. and I don't recommend doing it that way.

Dear @James.Youmatz

So IS there any way to copy a project to another account, yet? If not it seems like a way overdue feature. We recently bought two licenses for our company and want to transfer a project from another account. Is there really no way to dao that?

Hi @Anonymous ,

Yes - you can now transfer (NOT copy - as it will only transfer the files) to a Team Hub via our Team Hub Transfer Wizard.

There is no way to copy entire projects to a different account however.

Thanks,

Hi @James.Youmatz

Thanks for a quick answer. So what are the plans for implementing that? It is not viable, that you can't copy / transfer a full project to another account, e.g., a customer. You can't even easily download all design files.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Although I agree that the limitation can be tough on downloading designs 1 at a time locally - I guess I do not see the need to copy full projects of data. Currently you can transfer the data from one hub to another, but not full blown copy and paste.

This makes sense though with the current climate of Fusion Teams and how data is shared in today's world. With Fusion Team - the example you give is sharing with a customer. Why wouldn't they just become a Project Contributor in your Fusion Team project (in order to collaborate, view, and even download data they only explicitly invited to see) and then when they are no longer needed in this project, they can be removed.

I do see your points, and I am not trying to argue, but I think some of the functionality that Fusion Team offers is relatively under-utilized, and can help greatly in sharing data, whilst maintaining data privacy and collaboration.

Thanks,

@James.Youmatz

Ok - so how do I "hand over" a project to another organization? I.e., I do something for them, and when I'm done, I give them the full package for them to save or continue working on in their own organization, not sharing with me anymore.

If you could at least clone / copy a project in your own hub, it would work by sharing (as read only) a project with someone. Then they, the recipient, copiy / clone the project (if allowed) and then they leave the original project.

It would also be very useful to be able to clone a project for yourself, since you might want to take a project in two different directions.

I understand the team function but if the users want a way to download a project why hasn't it been addressed?

May I know, why the Project download is required. Because we anyways provide the option of file(s) download. you can download the whole set and upload it back again to your new project.

Currently, Projects in FusionTeam deals with Data and members(roles). we have the option to download the Data, however, we don't want to mess up with downloading the members as it may cause data privacy issues.

Hope this helps.

Sasi

Hey,

Thank you for your reply. My reason for needing a project download is because I (foolishly) have been designing parts for personal use on my work account. I will be leaving the company in a few months and don't want to rely on them to maintain stuff that I designed that has NOTHING to do with them. I don't want to annoy them with the "User X Updated a file" emails either. Plus there is the chance that I may want to pursue making these parts on my own at a later time.

I sat down and exported all of the relevant files to my home computer last night so at least I have them.

All we can have is to download the files and upload them in other places.

For the above-mentioned reasons, it is not a good practice to download the Project.

Sasi

Yea... Why to PAY for product, where you can't download your files?  Still not working!  Still Empty Folders without any content
