Tips on creating a bowl with patterned outside

Hi,

I would like to create a bowl with a 3d pattern on the outside, along the lines of this

Capture.PNG

It's clear to me about how to create a sketch with the profile of the bowl and then rotate it to form the bowl shape, but from there I am at a loss.

I've seen some great posts on here like this

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/project-help-extruding-projected-sketch/m-...

describing that I should project the sketch which covers the outside surface of the bowl.  I can do something along those lines with a sinple shape :

But to create the pyramid pattern, I need to use loft.  And as soon as I do that, I can no longer extrude from the outside face of the bowl.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to achieve this?

Cheers!

Here is how I did it. I used loft cuts and patterned them around the circumference. I have atteched the model so you can look through the timeline.  It is a rough model but you can play with the dimensions to get it the way that you want it.

Here's another way:DoubleHelixBowl.JPG

It would take a little refining to get the shape you want.  The workflow is:

  1. Create a helix using a Surface sweep.
  2. Use the helix to Split Body a bowl shape.
  3. Create a Plane on Path on the split.
  4. Create a sketch on the plane.
  5. Create a triangular profile to cut the bowl shape.
  6. Circular pattern the cut feature.
  7. Mirror the cut bowl shape.
  8. Join the two.
  9. Trim the sides.

If this were modeled by inverting the triangle, then joining it to the bowl instead of cutting, the bowl could be manufactured with a Rose Engine.
