threads to screw together

I have a sphere which I hollowed to 3mm then cut in half.  I built a 2mm ring around of each the rims then put threads on the inside and the outside. The threads on the inside kind of worked but the outside just fell apart.  Do I need a thicker ring to do this?  Will a PVC printed version work out any better?

What diameter is your sphere?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?
