Thread Dimension in Drawing

Hello,

Is it possible to mark threads as their screw dimension?

When adding a dimension to a thread I'm getting it's linear dimension in mm, I'm trying to get it marked as M3 M4 etc..

Hi @Anonymous,

You can achieve this with the leader command, which will allow you to choose the point of your callout, then allow you to specify the location of the callout and what it says. Then you'd simply enter the text as m3 etc.

Hope this helps,

Ben

Another way is to remove the default value when you edit the dimension, type the value "M12x1-6H" for it.

A smarter method to annotate  thread is when launching Leader command, all thread related info defined in Design environment will show up if a thread is selected - This functionality is what we will consider in the near future.

Thank you, it is a reasonable solution but it will only show a single arrow even when annotating a thread from a side view (which is with two arrows, as usually accepted).

Hi @Anonymous, You can always edit the text in a dimension by double-clicking on it, too... here's a quick video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oj3p3v2hrw6ycq5/threaddimension.mp4?dl=0

And as @zhixin.ni mentioned, we have plans for "smart" hole and thread callouts to be added to Fusion Drawings in the future, too.

Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Best,

Timera

Smart hole and thread options would be very helpful.  Save the user some time.

I am supporting smart hole and thread callouts, too. When they are going to be released, how soon?

Just had the same issue, so smart callouts for threads would be great.

We don't have a release date for this yet, but as soon as we do, I will update this thread so that you all get notified. Thank you for your patience.

I love NPT threads. Now it is very important to have automated callout features in the drawings. I need to be able to change a hole and have the thread in the drawing update. I got fusionusion to run my CNC router and now all of my time is making drawings for other manufactures. I really need these features. I have the day off or I would be posting from my paid account.

Hi,

When will it be? Future customers don't like it much. It spoils sales. Create a drawing and then rewrite all holes manually. That is not normal.

We're aware that this is still a need for the community, and we are working toward delivering this and other important functionality as quickly as we can.

Thanks for your patience.

No automatic thread annotation is the biggest thing stopping me moving to this from SolidWorks. Entering it manually is just going to lead to manufacturing errors. Any news on when this is coming?

Hi,
That's the question for Timera not on me. I don't know when it will be. Many things are still missing. Change weight to kg and not to g, The surface roughness mark over stamps, Weld marks and others.

Hi @ipvideosmith - we hear you loud and clear on the need for auto thread annotations. We have a development team actively working on this project, and it is a priority for us this year. I'll follow up once we get it out the door. You can see this and other upcoming projects on our public roadmap HERE

I'll add to the list of folks calling for this functionality. It needs to be a priority project. It's time-consuming to manually enter every thread callout, it's easy to forget that smart callouts don't exist after updating a model, and manually entering anything leaves a lot of opportunity for error.

In order to make this callout work it is required that you use the hole command and then the thread command when making the model. If you extrude a hole and then add threads the drawing will not do automated callouts. Also, it only works on internal threads.
