Text as a circular pattern

Thanks for your help. I have devised another method which has pros and cons.
1. Draw a rectangle where one letter is to be located, of a size that will enclose a letter of the desired size.
2. Create a 360 degree circular pattern with sufficient rectangles that the circle is filled with spacing equal to about 20% of the width of the rectangle, between rectangles.
3. Place a letter in a rectangle at the desired location, using the lower left corner of the rectangle as an insertion point.
4. With the Edit Text dialogue box open, size the letter as required and adjust the angle so as to orient the letter appropriately. If there are (say) 30 items in the circular array, text angle will be a multiple of 12 degrees.
Pros
No upside down text unless required
Can adjust text size readily without affecting scale of pattern
Cons
Slow
Non-uniform text spacing is not recognized (can probably be fixed by altering location of rectangle containing text)
