symmetric in box mode == symmetric in smooth mode??

When I draw a polygon and extrude it I get following. The selected edge was added by Fusion.

After removing that selected edge and uncreasing the remaining ones I get a result I don't understand:

While the extruded surface is symmetric in box mode. It's not in smooth mode. What exactly does that tell me?

 

Edit: When I also remove the face that was split by the edge Fusion added, and draw a new face, the surface is symmetric in smooth mode, too, I just realize...

Hi @Anonymous,

 

Part of the issue I think is that there is a difference in degree between the curve and surface.

But part of this seems to be a bug with symmetry. 

 

What is the desired outcome that you are looking for?

I guess I am a bit lost in translation and the more I try to explain it properly the more things sound complicated...

 

I accidentaly extruded a polygon with 7 sides with 8 faces. When I now remove that (selected) edge, uncrease the remaining edges and go to smooth mode, the whole surface is not symmetric, while (I guess) it should. (It's attached.)

But when I remove the face, that was split by the edge I just removed, too, and re-draw that face, then the whole surface is symmetric in smooth mode.

The question I right now have, is, when I remove the selected edge in the following situation, are the two faces supposed to be similar or is it making a difference that the left one had two edges split?

Hi @Anonymous,

 

You didn't accidently extrude with the extra faces.  Our curves are 5th degree and the T-Spline bodies are 3rd degree.  So there is a fitting that has to happen to get the 3rd degree T-Spline to match the curve you created.  Part of that match process introduced the extra faces.  

 

Another way to approach the problem is to skip the creation of the curve and create a T-Spline cylinder with the required size and diameter and then crease the edges.
