Surf Board Using Skeleton and LOFT?

Hi there,

I am trying to design a surfboard off of a pre-existing board I have currently. So far I have created a top, side and cross-section sketch and was hoping I could use the LOFT tool only to realize due to the curve of the board my side rail would not follow along. Any tips as how to build this model with the curve running through the middle?

Figured I should attach what I have so far. I am brand new to this so I apologize for any glaringly obvious mistakes.

These shark bites will play havoc with Fusion Loft.

Without them, you will get a reasonable build, but needs more profiles and other tricks, to reduce the shrinkage.

if those shark bites are needed - then you will likely have to go to T-splines.

Might help.....

@davebYYPCU I appreciate your feedback. For that model you posted how did you get the loft to work with the curvature of the board both in and up towards the tip? Since the sketches are limited to planes how do you make them intersect at the tip off axis? I am fairly new and am having a hard time figuring out even the board without the shark bite notches.

This is what I have so far, I'm not sure how to get it to follow my top template since I can not connect it at the tip so a rail will not work.

I created a centre line in sketch 4, then extruded that line with a Surface Extrude.

I used a modified curve in my Sketch 5 (without bites) to be used as Split Body cutter.

I have a solid vertical centre line in Sketches 3 and 4 to drive those sketches in half.

These things done, you can now use the outline of the surface as your Loft Rail.

Thank you much for your help and examples. This is a great starting place and gives me some ideas about where to go forward.

@davebYYPCU @g-andresen In the end I ended up combining both of your examples in a sense, with an extra cross section the shark bites don't misbehave the same and I believe I have a decent model now with solid geometry
