Super long save times for a small file?

Hi everyone, I just want to start by saying that I'm kinda new to Fusion 360, so I'm unfamiliar with it's quirks.
My problem is simple, I have a file that's 28mb, maybe a little more, and when I go to save it can take as long as half an hour to do so. Because of this I've been forced to push autosaving to an extreme increment. This is odd, because even though the mesh is /kinda/ complex I'm able to work on and edit this model with zero hang time or lag. I will say that the model is kinda complex? I'm working on turning a character sculpt from Zbrush into an action figure, which means I need a certain amount of polygons in order to keep my character's detail.
Anyways, is this normal? Am I using the wrong program all together? I really like how easy it is to take my character and prepare it for joints and such, it really is unlike any other program I've used, but this issue is a big road block for me.
One other thing to note is that this model was converted from a mesh to t-splines. I'm assuming this is how I should do it, but if not I would love to know if I'm doing something wrong.
