As far as I can tell one cannot mirror an item unless a mid line is first created to do so.

I generally build projects using a mirror function and in other applications when doing so there's implied mirror planes at the principle XYZ coordinate such that anything selected for mirroring will be done so the same distance from for example the y plane.

NO

Then why don't you just do it?

No one would forbid you.

Is that a constructive question?

Sketches require a line in the sketch (can be projected from the origin planes).

Bodies/Components can simply select the origin planes.

I'm not sure what type of applications your referring to.  In my case I see this implied mirroring happen in some of the digital sculpting tools I use.  And it makes sense there.

I don't think I would find it particularly helpful in fusion b/c even though I sometimes use an origin plane/axis for mirroring, frequently I do not.

even if the tool did use an implied axis/plane, there would have to be some sort of additional dialog so you could specify which x/y axis (for sketches) or xy,xz,yz plane (for bodies) to use.

I've made a vid for you.

I don't use the screencast available in app because the whole system is a tedious process - its more nuisance piled on the trouble being recorded.   I'd made a request/suggestion a couple years ago to make the system easier to use like for instance allowing the bulk deletion of previous vids.  It never happened.  One has to manually delete each vid one at a time.  Incredible.  So I appreciate your suggestion and I'll use the app for screen shots but until they can get their communications up to speed I'll have to make vids another way.

no argument on the shortcut keys.  fusion definitely falls short there. (I use the right mouse click "flick" up for repeating commands.  works for the way I work, but I don't keep a hand on the keyboard.)

on the mirroring, I guess the next question is how would mirroring that way maintain a parametric association?  Mirroring doesn't just create a mirrored object, but also places/positions it in the model in a parametric way.

The same data generated by the application generating the mirrored object would be the parametric data used in the time line.

Also, the RMB click flick is not operable for me as I use the TinkerCad version of the interface for my mouse. (It's the orbit function unless it's held still for a second and then a menu drops down.

I'm not following you.  "same date generated by the application...".  Are you saying at the time the mirror command is run it generates the mirror line/plane data?  how does that get related to the model?

How could it not?
