I imagine everyone is really bored during this shutdown and wondered where is the next major breakthrough in Computer Aided Design. In modeling, the ability to auto-generate structure from model bodies would save much time and costs. Classic design states to put structure members at points of intersection and inflection, in reference to surfaces; the edge lines can be used as guide curves to build these structural members ( profiles) into a skeleton.
Both marine and aerospace use Lofting to create vehicles and there is great book sold by Ship Modeling Simplified on model ship building that can help develop lofting skills and see if the premise surface edges represent centerline guide curves for structural members.
Lofting combined with generative design can help define rapidly built skeletal structure. AI can choose structural members that should remain. If we can control generative design web branch and growth direction with classic lofting rules we can make possibly a future...... star ship.
