Stopping Mechanism Thing

Hey, so I've been working on a USB Drive design, and I've come across a slight hitch. I want the slider to sort of stop once it's reached the end of the metal so that it doesn't get lost and makes the drive have that higher sense of quality, possibly a click when max slide and a click when closed. However it still needs to be done so that it can be assembled, as the front and main body are two parts, and the USB drive itself has to be glued in. 

 

If anyone can either offer suggestions or try to put it in yourself I would be very grateful. Also is there a disclosure on this?

You posted this question in the Fusion CAM forum, which focuses on the machining aspects of Fusion 360. While I am sure there are users who would be able to help you accomplish what you want, this post is probably better suited for the Design, Validate, and Document forum. I have requested for a moderator to move this post to that forum, where hopefully you will get some better responses.

That's a nice design!

 

Before starting with the design you should've reviewed what the difference is between a components and a body in Fusion 360.

You should also review Fusion 360's R.U.L.E #1.

 

In essence the bodies that are in the bodies folder should be part of component, because only components can be assembled using Fusion 360 joints.

In this case you have two halves the USB stick (with several bodies, or even components inside of each half). These two halves should be assembles using a slider joint with properly se joint limits.

 

Also, you've got several yellow highlighted features in the timeline that you should attempt to repair.

I looked at the links you gave me, very helpful thank you, however when trying to apply the joint everything starts going crazy I can't seem to get it to work, here's an updated of the file where they're set as components, if someone could help apply the joints then tell me how I'd be very grateful

I can assure you that you are mistaken. I had it done already with your first file!

 

However, I am trying to make sure that users are least Have the basics down so we have a foundation we can base a discussion on.i have over 5000 posts on just this forum and posed over 500 solutions to ha]elp other users. I am sure you can appreciate that at my level I try to get things done efficiently as possible and as such don't always start with Adam and Eve.

 

She structure of your design and the methods and tools you used to design it indicates that you are missing several key points of Fusion 360. That's the reason I referred you to the Learning material. Now that you have reviewed that material we can move on.

 

I'll create a screencast when I am back at my machine later today to show you.

 

In general, you should have two main components in your design. One stationary, so it should be grounded. One will be a moving/sliding part. Thus you would apply a\ slider joint between the two components. A as-built joint is what I iused in your first file (again if I remember correctly). Then you can set a joint limit to limit the travel of the joint to a certain range.

Yeah the restrictions that you put on how it moves is what I want, but it doesn't show a physical joint or mechanism? if it does put that on is there a way of seeing it?

Greetings, here I leave a video for you to solve your problem quickly, but you must perform some basic practices to understand the method of work in Fusion. I recommend the courses that are in Autodesk design academy and the webinars of the page of Fusio360 in youtube. Nice design!

No, of, course it does not. Whatever you want to have represented physically in your model you'll have to design yourself.

The slider joint I showed in my screencast allows the CAD software to simulate how the USB stick would behave if there would be physical restrictions.

But, again, you'll have to design those restrictions into your model.
