stl file included in the design is not exported to meshmixer

Hello everyone.

I'm quite new to the 3d design world as so far i've only used thinkercad.

My issue is the following:

I've made an hairclipper holder in fusion 360, and i've imported  an stl file in the design (the pegboard holder).

I've placed both objects correctly, but when i try to export the design for 3d print, only the parts designed in fusion360 are exported.

I've attached the file for reference.

How can i fix this?

I've also noticed that the 2 components are not bonded together in the stl file, as when i look at the file layer per layer i can see that the first cube is inside the second one and they are both hollow inside as it can be seen in this picture:

I guess i'm making some rookie mistakes, can anyone point me to the right direction? thank you

Did you union (Combine) the two solid bodies in Fusion?

(See attached file.)

Hi, welcome to Fusion 360!

Your components are two different bodies, you need to use the Combine tool to join them and sort out the issue that you highlighted in your image.

However, I noticed a problem when doing this...the box-shaped blob is poking through the claw-thing, it's more obvious after combining them. I've highlighted the bit that pokes through below:

Capture.PNG

As an aside, it's worth noting that exporting your design to .STEP might approximate some surfaces. To upload your designs to the forum make sure you have the design history captured and export the design as a .f3d file, that way others can try to retrace your steps and understand the process.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask any further questions!

Cheers,

Indy

Ok i was able to combine the 2 solids, though i've noticed that the mesh part was not exported in the .step file i've previously uploaded.

I have this stl imported object that i want to combine with the 2 solids so that i can print the whole object on my 3d printer, how can i do that?

@wilkhui Thank you for pointing it out. I have noticed it but after creating the solid i haven't found a way to edit it so i've left it like that since it shouldn't cause any problem other than aesthetic issue.

Can you File>Export and attach your *.f3d file here?

The geometry looks pretty simple in the image you attached.

Can you model that geometry from scratch? (as solid body rather than imported mesh surfaces)

Are you familiar with the process of converting mesh to b-rep solids?

@JDMather here's the f3d.

I'm still newbie, it would be kinda hard for me to remake the geometry from scratch.

Same as above redarding b-rep solids

I'm trying to watch tutorials but the learning curve takes quite some time i guess
