STEP Files

I believe that Fusion 360 supports importing some some 3D files. The most common that I have seen is STEP AP203 and AP214.

1. What are the benifits and advantages between the two?

2. What other formates are supported?

A simple explanation:

https://grabcad.com/questions/what-is-the-difference-between-step-files-format-203-and-214

AP203 defines the geometry, topology, and configuration management data of solid models for mechanical parts and assemblies. This file type does not manage Colors and Layers.

AP214 has everything a AP203 file includes, but adds colors, layers, geometric dimensioning and tolerance, and design intent. AP214 is considered an extension of AP203.

Is the key diferance that materials and appearances are retained in the AP214? Sorry, but I have not tried exporting yet. Just importing.

You are correct, the key distinction seems to be 214 brings colors as well as the model hierarchy. These colors will look okay in Fusion, but they aren't the same as native Fusion colors and textures. So it depends on how much you really need or like the original part appearances after import.

Fusion will import almost any common 3D file type.

Mr.Phil

Am trying to export STL file from REVIT. The output which comes uniform ash color alone. I gave multicolored how can I get those colors in stl file to visual alone. I don't need to take 3D print. I just want to view the stl file in multi colors which i applied in revit file.

Is there any other options to do that ?

or I can add- in any latest versions for that ?

please find the attachment file (@left revit & @ right stl file.)

This thread discussion is about STEP (*.stp) files, not stl files.

These are two completely different file types.

It would have been better to start a new discussion.

Does Revit export *.obj files?

It would probably be best to post your questions about exporting with appearances to the Revit forum.

If you get a proper export, then the discussion can return to Fusion 360.

@TheCADWhisperer

Yes, you are correct.

but am looking for a 3d viewer from revit and its doesn't supports .obj file

So, I'm exporting to 3ds max, from 3ds max converting to .OBJ file.

I can get output, but not the textures / materials.

Let me check in Revit forum

Thank u.

@dhepi2311  Since you just need a viewer, try the Autodesk viewer.
