Square Thread?

I'm trying to manually cut an internal SQ THD 38x7. I don't see a square thread option under the thread command. I've been trying to do a helical sweep but I'm not sure how to execute it. Any help out there?

Hello,

If you are looking for manual cut of SQ thread. I would use coil with sq shape. Set the option "height and pitch" and set values from thread definition.

I would recommend you to start coil from parallel plane to face of cylinder in distance height of thread groove. This makes the end of coil realistic.

If need be you can also import a helical spline path, and use that for a loft of any desired thread profile, such as rectangular or trapezoidal.  Let me know if you need more info about this.

I really should have said a sweep using a helical spline path, rather than a loft, since the thread geometry would not change along the path.
