split body problem

I'm getting an error splitting a body with a surface.   I've used this technique many times before, so I'm perplexed.   I get an error "Compute error: no intersection between target(s) and too".    This is an odd error because they are 100% intersecting as far as I can see.

Does anyone know what's going on here?

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

It didn't work, because you tried to split one corner at a time! Imagine it was a circle and you cut the circle in one place. All you did is just opened the circle. In order to split the circle into two, you need to cut it in two places simultaneously.

I hope you'll understand what I did in the screencast:

Cheers / Ben

Thanks Ben, that worked a treat, and makes total sense.  I guess I never noticed that you can't use more than one cutting tool with the split-body command.

Hey folks,

hoping you can help me, too. I have a part that I'm trying to put a variable chamfer on (originally tried sweeping a closed profile but couldn't get it to stretch the way I wanted). Anyway, I figured I'd use a surface body to cut the body. Each time I try to use the Split Body feature I get this result. I even extended the surfaces to guarantee that the two were intersecting (see attached). Any advice? I'm coming from SolidWorks & Pro-E so any comparisons to either of those CAD packages might be helpful.

Thanks,

Evan

@Anonymous,

If you could make a screencast, that would be great.

Without seeing the model, it is difficult to say for sure.  Can you share the model with me?

I would guess, though, that the problem is in one of these areas:

If, for some reason, the surface does not completely cut through the body, you can get this error.  It's best to completely over-build your cutting surface in these cases.

I'm an idiot- looked more closely and found a gap at the end of the surface where it wasn't piercing through the solid body. A simple surface extend fixed this. Thanks for pointing it out.

What is throwing me off (and maybe this will translate to the issues I was having with doing a solid sweep) is how the end of the sweep stops short. If you look at the screencast you can see that I constrained my sketches/projected curves so they should run up to the vertex where the surface wasn't intersecting the solid body. However, it looks like the sweep stopped short on lower guide rail. Any idea what would cause this? (I did a loft between the two curves and was able to use the resulting surface to split the body without any additional Extend operations- so I know the curves terminate in the right spot).

Thanks

Hi,

I am having a similar problem. Just unable to split the body in Model or Patch environment. Tried splitting via Plane and line didn't work.

Tried making a copy and extruding, did work.

Please let me know what I am doing wrong.

I get the error "No intersection between targets(s) and split tool.

I need to split the body along its length. Download from: https://a360.co/2FRHeG3
