spline curves drawn in 3d space: having trouble using "handles"?

Have 3 rectangular sketches on parallel planes.

Connect 3 of the corners (with a view to using them for Rails in a Loft).

(This is an operation in 3D space because sketching on a plane that does not intersect any of the 3 points).

Try to manipulate the handles to adjust the angle of the spline. 

Unable to.

Should this be possible?

You have to use the move command when working in 3d.

Makes sense.

Even better, it turns out Move works not just on the spline curve itself but also on the spline point "handles" giving quite some flexibility!
