is there a spiral function in sketch mode?

No there's no spiral command in sketch mode. The best you can do is use the coil command then extract the edge using project in a sketch.

Can you explain your design intent?  (Do you have a link to an image of something similar to what you are trying to create?)

 

Maybe the Spiral - Coil feature will give you what you need.

Thanks for the response. I want to make a cam clamp that the radius
increases linearly as you turn it. The radius starts out at .5" and as you
turn it 180 deg the radius increases to 1.5". I was learning how to do
scripts last night and can wright one to do this. The problem is I have to
use small line segments to make up the spiral. That is OK if I print it on
paper and use that as a pattern to cut out of wood but if I want to machine
is out of metal that is not a great solution.

Should be trivially easy with Coil function.

Post back if you have trouble figuring it out.
