solid bodies from component

I downloaded a .obj file and want to 2D print. I get this error message

"The desing contains no solid bodies. A drawing cannot be created"

How do I create solid bodies from components. What I loaded has only components.

I suspect your obj file is a mesh not NURBS surfaces and I'm not sure you can make a 2d drawing from a mesh. Can you get the part in a different format, something like STP of IGS that should be surface models.
