What is it you're trying to dimension?
Fusion normally does OK with orthogonal curved geometry, but there are some instances that can throw it for a loop:
(This is my experience, not a definitive word)
- non-orthogonal stuff. i.e. if your view is from an angle, it can sometimes have a hard time picking up snap points.
- splines.
- non BRep geometry (meshes)
In terms of how to fix it, there may be an easy solution, but if you could post a file or at least a screenshot or screencast, that would help understanding what you're trying to do more precisely. It often involves some kind of projection sketch or construction geometry, but could be something else.
Re: DWG files.... they have been the de facto 2D CAD file exchange format for.... well, decades. We use them to send (primarily) 2D CAD data to vendors. DXF is also widely used for manufacturing. There are a LOT of CAD programs out there, and I'd bet that 99% of them can handle a DWG file. In terms of why Fusion won't open it's own DWG export.... That's a good question, but if it started in Fusion, then is there really a need for it to be re-imported? It's an academic discussion. The value is simply being able to export a file that someone who uses TurboCAD (or AnyOtherCAD) can import and use as reference.
