Snap to other components/sketches in sketchmode?

Hello,

so this is my first day with fusion and im facing one big issue which is that i cant figure out how to snap to other components in sketchmode. For example how can i scetch a circle on a face of one component so that it is aligned to the center of a cylinder as another component/body? Another thing would be to sketch on top of another sketch while referring to the first sketch. For now i can only manage to snap to points on the sketchplane.

I´d appreciate your help. 😃

Hi Andreas,

When you create a sketch on existing geometry what you can do is project the existing geometry to the sketch.  This should allow you to align your circle to the center point of the cylinder.  Below you can see the options we have for projecting geometry onto a sketch.

For your second question, using project should allow you to project the specific areas of the other sketch onto your current sketch.

Please let me know if this answers your question or if I didn't answer it for you.

Cheers,

Hi Joel,

this is exactly what i was looking for! Thank you!

One other thing though:

I read that there was a beta testing for fusion360 documentation (create technical drawings of your projects) in 2013. Is it implemented into the common software yet? I couldnt find that option yet. Im on MACOSX for now.

Glad it worked. 🙂

We just released an update over the weekend that added some of this type of additional functionality.

For MacOSX we have added Cam capabilities, we don't have documentation ready yet, but it will be coming.

For Windows we have added documentation, and Cam is also there.

If you wish to try the documentation for Fusion right now the only way is to load Fusion only a windows machine.  Our intent is to get this onto the Mac side of things soon, but we want to make sure it is stable first. 🙂

This happens to me a lot in this forum.  The author, assuming readers have knowledge that they actually don't have, gives an incomplete answer, rendering their answer virtually useless.  In this case, he simply puts up the "project" menu.  "project" is no where in evidence on the main screen, thus I am left to (so far unsuccessfully) hunt around for this menu so I can snap to items in other sketches.

I suggest you show the click sequence required to get from the main menus to the "project" menu.
E.g. Modify>change parameters>project

Can you show us the whole screenshot?

Edit: Nevermind, here is what worked for me.

@Anonymous -A you progress in your fusion abilities, your going to find that: A) having things set to automatically project into new sketches will be a real PITA, cluttering up your work and making life generally more difficult, and B) that you will have uses for the other forms of the project function, which you won't know about if you don't learn to use the tool.

@Anonymous  - The UI has changed a good bit in the intervening 5 years since the original post.  It wouldn't have mattered if he had been more specific about the tool location, it would be a little different now anyway.  below is a screen shot of how to find it currently.  this menu is only available while actively editing a sketch.
